One Enemy

We have one God but we also have one enemy. It is satan. All those who hurt you or others, those who lash out at our faith or do horrible things it’s not just them it is satan. He is using them as a vessel to bring evil into the world.

I am of course not saying that we people are blameless, unfortunately some allow him to take over their hearts. Some do it unwillingly, satan is cunning, he can trick a good Christian into thinking he is doing right when in fact he is acting against God.

Jesus knew this. That is why in Matthew 16: 23 when Peter rejected what Jesus said about His coming death He told him,  “Get behind Me, Satan! You are a stumbling block to Me. For you do not have in mind the things of God, but the things of men.”

Jesus rebuked satan who was using Peter as a spokesperson to say what he wanted to happen. Peter didn’t realize this and thought he was doing the right thing, in fact he  going was against God’s plan.

God knows it is satan who is the enemy, he has been manipulating us since the beginning. That is why He sent His son to die for us, so we can be reconciled with Him and battle the enemy through the Holy Spirit.

If you encounter someone who has satan in their heart, counter it with kindness. Proverbs 25:21-22 says, “21 If your enemy is hungry, give him food to eat, and if he is thirsty, give him water to drink. 22 For in so doing, you will heap burning coals on his head, and the LORD will reward you.”

Do what God would want you to do, counter hate with love.

God loves the person who is doing evil because he too is a victim of satan whether unwillingly or not, that is why we must love them as well.

Pray for their repentance so they too can be reconciled with God.

Have a blessed Week,
Chris

Toxic Environments in Christian Culture

I really wanted to write a Christmas blog this week but this has been on my heart.

Why are so many Christian discussions like comment sections so toxic? It makes me sad. Where is the love? Just because you can quote scripture doesn’t mean you know scripture.

So many Christians take a few scriptures and use that as a license to judge.

Didn’t Jesus tell you not to judge?

Stop taking a few verses out of context in order to behave like you are God, you are not.

All you’re doing is pushing people away from the Lord, your job as a Christian on Earth is to bring others to Jesus and take care of the needy. Not tear down your brothers and sisters in Christ.

It’s okay to go to other Christians and attempt to reconcile them with God. But it seems that many only wish to “expose” false preachers or pastors. They’re obsessed with certain scriptures and want to comment on every video that doesn’t go along with their beliefs. I notice many people like this also mock, laugh and insult others. I see people like this say, “LOL” at someone’s response to them or call them a bad name. I have even seen people curse as they argue.

This leads to the other side becoming heated as well.

Watching Christians argue over the Lord in such hateful ways is really heartbreaking.

Others see it to, imagine if you weren’t a believer and go to check out a video sermon and see Christians behaving this way?  How does that make the church look?

Unfortunately many are leaving the faith not because of God but because of a toxic environment they’re experiencing. It’s up to us to show the Light of God to those who need it, not cover that Light up and let darkness take over.

Read Paul’s letters, when speaking of correcting the peoples ways he did so in a loving manner, not an angry, judgmental way.

Speaking of Paul, after reading some of his letters recently, it hit me. We are still dealing with the same problems in the church 2,000 years later. In Paul’s day people argued over scripture, some were abusing their grace and letting the outside world influence them, while others were still holding on to the law so harshly that there appeared to be no grace at all. People were arguing over who they followed, saying they were followers of Paul or Titus or Peter or James or another, the predecessor to all the denominational differences of today. Some were complaining about giving any money to their church and didn’t want to tithe. Believers didn’t know what do believe so it was chaos and bickering.

Does this sound familiar?

Paul addressed all these issues. Now in this day and age people take a bit of Paul’s letters and other scriptures out of the Bible in order to win arguments but they don’t realize they are behaving in a way that he spoke out against.

What it all comes down to is you have to pray to God, you have to LISTEN to God, if you can’t hear the voice of God that is a problem. But fear not, you still have the Bible.

WWJD is not just a bumper sticker or a bracelet. Know how Jesus would have handled a situation, don’t just look at one situation, but follow His entire story. Jesus was the most loving and forgiving person to ever walk this Earth. Try to show the same love and forgiveness God does, He knows best.

I am not going to be a hypocrite and judge those who lash out in comments sections or any other platform. I have run theories in my head to why they people behave that way but I am not going to entertain those thoughts and tear those people down. I don’t know what is truly in their hearts, only God knows.

I just pray that we all do God’s will.

Have a blessed week,
Chris

Hating the World vs. Loving the World Part 2

We can love God’s World, the true World.

Marvel at his creation. I was just spending a day with the wife at our apartment’s community pool. I was floating looking up at the clouds and a tree that overhangs the pool.

Wow. Something so simple that we take for granted is beautiful when you actually take the time to look at it.

Think about God’s creation. It’s not just the beauty of it all. Everything serves a purpose, from the smallest to the largest. That tree in all its splendor helps us breath as well. It’s a home for an animal. Cut down and it would be used for so many things we use on a day to day basis.

God’s creation is stunning.

We too have our purpose. Don’t let someone tell you that you don’t matter, that you are a small insignificant person in a giant universe. You matter, you serve a purpose. Every day you do something that someone else doesn’t. They’re people who love you and care about you. Most importantly God cares about you.

The creator of it all cares about you.

His creation is amazing and he is still creating.

Love the things Jesus loved to do when he was on Earth. Love spending time with your family, friends, enjoy a good meal together. Love wholesome things. Go to a party or two. Love helping others and doing the work your Father wants you to do.

God loves us. He wants us to be happy. Love the good things, if it doesn’t involve sin, enjoy it.
Hate the sinful, bad things of the World. Hate injustice, evil and things that go against God.

God loves mercy, compassion and kindness.

God loves the whole World, love is the key to everything. Love God, love yourself, and love your neighbor. Love is stronger than hate. Let’s trounce what we are called to hate with the overwhelming love of God.

Have a blessed week.

Hating the World vs. Loving the World Part 1

1 John 2:15-17, “15Do not love the world or anything in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him. 16For all that is in the world—the desires of the flesh, the desires of the eyes, and the pride of life—is not from the Father but from the world. 17The world is passing away along with its desires, but whoever does the will of God remains forever.”

That verse is often quoted but it doesn’t mean you should hate your time on Earth.

It’s important to know the context of the verse. We must not love the World society has created. Society has created their own rules, regulations and boarders. They tell us what is right and wrong. We are told what is moral and immoral. The path to happiness is laid out but it is really the path to destruction.

More money, material things, bigger house, nicer cars, keep consuming. But what happens? You covet.

You see the neighbors, their house, their car, their stuff. You start to think about how much money they make. Maybe you even look at their wife.

Soon you aren’t just tossing away objects for the newer and better. Now you are finding flaws in people you love.

Soon they become disposable too.

Society tells you what you need. But that is not society’s job.

That is God’s, His laws, His rules, His path to happiness is far easier and more fulfilling to follow.

You may be in situations that go against your morals or things are happening God wouldn’t approve of. Remember Jesus said we are the light of the World. So shine bright. If you’re at a wild party, be the one who doesn’t engage in the sinful behavior. Maybe someone will follow you instead of the crowd. Maybe someone who did engage in the sinful behavior will seek you out tomorrow in their shame or pain and you can bring them to Christ.

Remember even if you hate the World. You must also love the World. John 3:16, “For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.”

It’s the most quoted verse for a reason. God is so patient. He wants us all to be saved. Let’s help God save the World.

Next week I will be writing about how to love the World.

I hope this helped those who read it.

Have a blessed week.
